SMOD
SMOD is a Japanese mod which replays the original HL2 storyline but with new enemies, weapons and abilities. SMOD features hundreds of user configurable variables and allows each player to tune his experience to his own tastes. Using the resources below, players of SMOD are encouraged to learn the function of each variable and how this affects gameplay, and to make their own tailored experience. SMOD can be everything from a "lol gibfest" to a highly refined realism mod. The choice is yours.
DOWNLOAD
SMOD Download the highest numbered version and the most recent patch if available. Install the main version to your Sourcemods first, then extract any patches over the top of existing files.

CSS SCI FI
CSS SCI FI is a single player modification for SMOD which uses maps from Counter-Strike: Source as the setting for classic Half Life 2 "Counter Combine" action. CSS SCI FI includes SMOD 39D2, 12 custom Counter-Strike: Source maps and a full configuration utility.

Running maps in SMOD

To run a map in SMOD, use the following command line, replacing "dm_underpass" with the name of any map you wish to run, and "skill 3" with your preferred skill, as above. It is not necessary to copy the map from the original installation directory. Using the following addcontents.txt file with the correct edits (see enclosed readme) will allow you to run maps from any directory. With one installation you can run maps from regular HL2, HL2DM, CS:S and from SMOD.

You can also play maps from other mods from within SMOD. This is done by mounting the resources for those mods using the addcontents.txt file, as described in the download below. The mod can then be started using the console or the command line below, substituting dm_underpass for the first map in the mod.

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -game "c:\program files\valve\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\smod" +map dm_underpass +skill 3

SMODified Maps
Below are maps which were specifically modified by the SMOD author using the mapadd/lua function. You will need to download the maps below and install them to your the relevant directory (i.e. ..hl2mp\maps) , then use the addcontents.txt file to enable access. It is not necessaryto install maps to your SMOD maps folder. The required mapadds are already present in any recent SMOD installation. To play the maps, make a shortcut as described above.
dm_lockdown - already present in HL2DM, use addcontents.txt file to enable access.
dm_torrent
dm_underpass - already present in HL2DM, use addcontents.txt file to enable access.

Mapadd Generator
SMOD fan kh0rn3 has written a program which generates mapadd/lua pair of files for any map which has nodes. Be sure to back up any custom mapadd/lua files before use. This should never be used while CSS SCI FI is installed.

Models
As in regular HL2, there are hundreds of models you can choose to replace the defaults. It is recommended when playing the standard version of SMOD to replace the model for the "friendly combine" (an ally you encounter in SMOD from time to time) for better differentiation from enemies during frenzied SMOD combat.

Getting help with SMOD
Given the complexity of SMOD, the fact that supporting documents are written in Japanese and the frequency with which it is updated, SMOD guides are very difficult to write. However, if you need additional help post in one of these extremely long threads, which are in themselves worth reading for tips and tricks, at Steam and Facepunch. For help with SMOD Remastered or SMOD Redux see the mod release forum at H.I.T.. But be wary! Any forum topic which deals with SMOD is a magnet for help vampires, and as such will be full of repeated simple questions and useless comments, but if you persevere SMOD will reward you.
